MINELAB EQUINOX TESTS Comments Having used the Equinox now for over a year and spent about 40 hours on my test bed over the last year, plus endless tests with real targets in the field I have found the best settings for the type of sites I detect on , normally permanent pasture where I need depth and sensitivity , I am normally detecting on worked out sites (by choice) The Equinox just seems to finds targets that others miss. My settings are. Field 2/Multi tones or 5 tones depending what mood I am in, Iron bias 0/I normally use it in all metal, again depending what mood I am in, I normally swap and change all the time on that option, I find signals come though cleaner sometimes if all metal is chosen, /Sweep speed 4/ Volume and Threshold to suite, I normally have 1’s and 2’s giving a low tone if there is coke around, on most off my sites there is no Coke, so I accept 1’s and 2’s and dig them, because of how the Equinox works you do get a lot of strange multitone’s down the same hole, most of these are nonferrous. Every program seems to do a different job, the Gold programs are the deepest but are harder to get used to, Field one finds low conductive targets better than Field 2 (if there is Coke around) but is not as deep The 15’’ Coil gives the same results on my test bed as the 11’’ coil, but it hits the targets harder and the signals come though louder and clearer, but it’s not a lot different, only it obviously covers more ground The 6’’ Coil is quite good for a small coil, and will be handy in some circumstances, but as I have found the larger coils are better among iron contrary to what most people believe. It’s a fascinating detector that will take years to fully understand, if at all. Ideal for beginners though to experts Arguably the best all round detector available. |
